CWC training courses
Are you a researcher, PhD student or teacher at Utrecht University? And do you want to do something with a general audience, but do you want to improve your skills or develop in that area? The Center for Science and Culture (CWC) offers various types of training courses.
Layman's talk
Utrecht University offers PhD students the opportunity to give a so-called layman's talk prior to the defense of their dissertation. Since 2024, CWC offers a training for this purpose. This training is open to PhD students of Utrecht University who will defend their dissertation within four months from the training.
Training in CWC projects and programs
If you participate in a project or program organized by CWC, you are often offered training or coaching as well. For example, we coach participants in the annual in TivoliVredenburg, the Even over Morgen dialogue project or Slimme Gasten and help them put together a good story or school visit, or give them a dialogue training.
Breaking Science
Breaking Science is an annual pitch contest for PhD students and postdocs. They have just three minutes to present their research or a scientific concept from their field to a panel of coaches. Before entering the contest, participants receive training from professionals at . A unique experience where they learn how to design a pitch, how to bring it to the stage and how to address the audience.

Sometimes you don't have the above knowledge at hand when you're going to engage a general audience in your research. That's why CWC has now released Probeer eens (niet)... This publication consists of a collection of elements that you can use when designing an activity. Not just 鈥淭ry it,鈥 but also 鈥淒on't try it鈥 tips. You'll find a mix of insights based on experiences, those of others, and impact measurements that teach us what works and what doesn't.
