The Space
Spanning over 600 m², Playground is a bright, versatile space located in the Vening Meinesz C building. Designed with input from students, staff, and architects, it offers the perfect setting for a wide range of activities. Whether you’re hosting a workshop, exhibition, interactive class, or any other event, the flexible layout allows you to easily adapt the space to your needs. Rearrange seating, adjust lighting and audio, or use modular partitions to create the ideal environment for your event.

Floorplan
Playground has five key areas:
- Foyer
- Event Space
- Board Room
- Workshop Room
- Build Room.
When the rooms aren't booked, they remain open for student collaboration and project work. Below, you’ll find more details about each space and inspiration on how they’re being used.

Foyer
The first space you’ll encounter, the foyer, is a lively spot where students collaborate, grab coffee, or relax. With a capacity of 50 people, it’s great for informal meetups, community bites and drinks, or networking events. Amenities include microwaves, cutlery, plates, cups, storage lockers, and coat hangers. Students and staff can also use the refrigerators when space allows. Whether you’re working or unwinding, the foyer offers a welcoming, functional setting.

Education/ Event Space
The heart of Playground. This vibrant red room is designed for versatility and dynamic experiences. With a capacity of up to 100 people, it’s perfect for action-packed events and collaborative group sessions. It features:
- 100 seats around a central stage including a cushioned tribune and high chairs.
- 90 seats for group work, with movable tables and chairs that can be arranged as needed.
- Flexible setup with curtains, whiteboards, and blackboards, which can also be used to partition the area.
- Four movable screens plus a presenter screen
- Stage lighting and AV equipment with different presets for talks, workshops, panel discussions, and parties.
Note: If additional seating is required, the event space can extend into the foyer, where the speaker's audio and presentation slides can also be displayed.
Board Room
Adjacent to the event space, this professional blue room is ideal for hybrid small group meetings. It features:
- Seating for up to 10 people
- Soundproof walls
- Two large screens for online meetings
- Whiteboards for brainstorming

​​​​​​​Workshop Room
This bright yellow room, located between the Board and Build Rooms adjacent to the Education/Event Space, has an open layout designed for dynamic and interactive sessions. Features include:
- Capacity: 20 people
- Movable tables for open or structured layouts
- Whiteboards for brainstorming
- A static screen for displaying presentations
- Comfortable seating, including poufs and carpeted flooring.
Clipboards are also available, so if you prefer to keep the tables aside and maintain an open plan, you’ll still have a sturdy surface for occasional writing or note-taking.
Oh, and there’s a bull you can sit on—because why not? Let your creativity run wild!
Build Room
A hands-on creative space for low-fidelity prototyping, the green Build Room is stocked with materials like LEGO, paper, cardboard, and fabric. It has a maximum capacity of 18 people and features:
- Whiteboards and blackboards for planning
- High tables for crafting
- Shelving and cupboard space for storage
- A sink for easy cleanup
Ideal for creating visualisations or physical models that allow students to transform their ideas into minimum viable products/prototypes.
Organising an Event?
Students, education and non-education staff, and external organisations are all welcome to use Playground’s spaces to host entrepreneurial events, provided they are open to ÀÖÓãºǫ́ students. For more information on our selection criteria, please refer to the Booking Checklist.
