The Department of Cultural Anthropology focuses on academic teaching of and research on social as well as cultural anthropology. Cultural Anthropology is the study of cohesion, change and conflict in human society and culture from a global and comparative viewpoint. We emphasise qualitative methods of social-scientific research, prioritising ethnographic field work in the physical and virtual social space.

    The departmental research programme Sovereignty and Social Contestation investigates power, authority, protest and conflict according to their political, cultural and moral dimensions.
