Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning
Good teaching stands or falls on the quality of teachers. High-level academic education starts with expert teachers who are trained as both researchers and teachers. The Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning (CAT) works to continuously enhance teaching at 乐鱼后台 and is the place to go for teachers and other education professionals with questions about teaching. The centre focuses on the pillars teacher development, educational innovation and Educational Scholarship and cooperates with the partners in their network.
Teacher development
The CAT offers a diverse range of workshops, learning courses, e-modules and more to ensure that teachers can continue to develop their teaching and their own qualities as teachers. The CAT also organises the annual Teaching and Learning Inspiration Days, four days filled with a diverse workshop offer, and the OnderwijsFestival, a day during which the entire 乐鱼后台 teaching community comes together for a day filled with an inspiring programme and the annual Teacher Awards are presented.
Educational innovation
Education must constantly adapt to changes in society and technological developments. The CAT is engaged in developing and supporting teachers in new ways of learning, such as the use of innovation tools, virtual learning experiences with Extended Reality, and Future Learning Spaces, which provides opportunities for more activating learning activities in inspiring learning spaces.
In addition, the CAT makes time and resources available in the form of the Utrecht Education Incentive Fund, which enables teachers to carry out their own innovation projects.
Educational Scholarship
Academic education also requires a scholarly approach to our own teaching. Within Educational Scholarship, the focus is on two areas of interest: Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and Higher Education Research (HER). Within SoTL, teachers conduct research on their own teaching and within HER, cross-disciplinary and general research is conducted on Higher Education.
Teaching At Utrecht University
One of the partners in the CAT is the (Teaching at Utrecht University). This is a network for and by teachers at Utrecht University. Any 乐鱼后台 teacher who has questions or is looking for more depth can contact Teaching At Utrecht University (T@乐鱼后台).
Teaching qualifications
Utrecht University was the first university in the Netherlands to introduce teaching qualifications. Utrecht University made the basic teaching qualification compulsory for all its teachers. All Dutch universities have since adopted this policy.
