The Teaching & Learning Lab is at the forefront of practical research on education in conjunction with the learning space. Testing innovative educational concepts in the TLL is therefore considered one of the important activities in these two teaching test rooms. The TLL has served as an example for two halls in Bijlhouwersstraat, the Hybrid Active Learning Classroom in Bolognalaan and the mobile hybrid set, among others.  The TLL is distinguished by the flexible arrangement of furniture and equipment.

Equipped with a new and flexible set-up, TLL implements the Utrecht educational model: learning in small groups, active and student-centered learning. By using TLL's facilities, teachers develop a mind-set aimed at redesigning and strengthening their teaching.

On the Teaching and Learning Lab , teachers share their good practices on the use of both spaces.

In 2022, an evaluation of courses conducted in the HALC and TLL was conducted within FLS. This involved interviewing teachers and observing lessons (in addition to literature review).
This resulted in the report Kennisontwikkeling en docentpofessionalisering in Future Learning Space. This report includes the following results:

• Group work is easily facilitated in these spaces;
• Teachers can easily monitor and guide the group process;
• Alternation of different work forms is easily possible and a lot of alternation of work forms also takes place;
• Possibilities to alternate in posture: working standing/seated are used by students and teachers and experienced as pleasant;
• Teachers experience more active participation of students in teaching;
• Students and teachers experience more interaction between teacher and student, between students, and between students and the subject matter;

Room for improvement also exists. Teachers may practice with the space beforehand or have experience with the space, the technology must work there must be support available. Finally: there is still insufficient knowledge about good practices in the field of educational design in relation to this type of learning space.
