Thijs Jeursen is Assistant Professor in Conflict Studies and principal investigator and project leader in research on the relationship between violent conflict and the environment.
From a conflict studies and environmental humanities perspective, his work seeks to contribute to understanding how conflict relates to the environment before, during, and after warfare. Thijs currently leads a research project on the unique and unknown intersections between military activities and ecological conditions, and The Surveillance of Ecological Violence from Space, which assesses the possibilities and limitations of satellite technology in monitoring ecological violence during armed conflict.
Thijs coordinates the Contesting Governance platform and Climate and the Imagination community and is a member of the Global Justice Investigations Lab.
