Sanne Bours is a PhD Candidate at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development within the Faculty of Geosciences at Utrecht University. Her research is dedicated to understanding how to effectively govern sustainability transitions, utilizing both top-down perspectives - such as societal missions – and bottom-up strategies - like propelling small wins. She considers a range of perspectives, from international to regional, aiming to accelerate transitions.
Specifically, her work centers on advancing the circular economy within the sectors of plastic packaging and the built environment, which includes houses and infrastructure. Her aim is to develop policy recommendations that promote sustainable practices, drawing on theoretical frameworks related to innovation systems, innovation policy and the concept of lock-ins.
