Marit van den Berg graduated cum laude from Utrecht University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in February 2016. She followed a small animal rotating internship and residency in internal medicine at Ghent University from 2016 to 2020. After finishing her residency, she became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine-Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA) in April 2021. In May 2021, she started her PhD on canine pheochromocytomas at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, under supervision of co-promotor dr. S. Galac and promotor prof. dr. H.S. Kooistra. She also started working as an internal medicine specialist at the same department at that time. In this way, she combines her clinical career with research, with a special emphasis on endocrinology.
The ‘European Board of Veterinary Specialisation’ ( is responsible for the training, examination, and accreditation of veterinary specialists in Europe. An EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist has completed a three-year postgraduate program followed by an examination after studying Veterinary Medicine. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine employs EBVS specialists from various fields. Additionally, the faculty is a recognized training institute for various specializations.
