Gijs Cremers is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Cultural Anthropology. His research interests include the construction of nature and landscape, human-environment relations, geo-imaginaries, and the intersection of politics and geology in the context of volcanic landscapes. His regional specialization is primarily Guatemala, but he also worked in different contexts, such as the southern Peruvian Andes. His work more broadly engages with the fields of geological anthropology and political geology. He is interested in working with visual and sensory methodologies such as photo-elicitation, ethnographic film, maps, and drawings
Since 2020, Gijs is part of the editorial board of the Dutch anthropological journal .
