Dr. Elisa Fiore is Assistant Professor of Urban Geography at the department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning. Working at the intersection of gender studies, sensory studies, and urban geography, over the past ten years she has specialised in the study of contemporary structures of urban inequality and how they become spatialised through bodies and embodied practice. Prior to joining Utrecht University, Fiore received her PhD from Radboud University Nijmegen with a research project investigating how the race-, gender-, and class-based exclusions brought forward through gentrification are experienced, constituted, and reproduced through embodiment and sensory attunement to place. At present, she is developing a new research project on the contentious urban spatiality of reproductive rights in Europe. Overall, Fiore is committed to research striving for the creation of more balanced, equitable, and inclusive urban spaces.
