Current research

I am a PhD Candidate at Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development where I work within Innovation Studies and Environmental Governance. My research focusses on international regulation on Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) mechanisms related to genetic resources. I study the implications of ABS mechanisms through a relational justice lens to understand how these regulations shape certain relations between users and providers of genetic resources. Doing so, I try to formulate a reflection on how ABS might contribute to fairness and justice in the exchange of genetic resources. I conduct my research within the that is aimed at developing resilient crops through 'smart breeding'.

Research background

I completed my research master's degree at Utrecht University in Urban and Economic Geography. My thesis discussed the interpretations of justice within different community energy projects. After that, I've worked at the Dutch Scientific Council for Government Policy (WRR) where I've co-written the report on distributive justice of climate costs in the context of Dutch climate policy (see ). I have also worked within the Social Innovation cluster at the department of Energy Transition Studies at TNO where my research mostly focussed on energy justice and energy poverty.
