Aris is a physical geographer in the Mountain Hydrology group at Utrecht University. For his PhD project, he will investigate high-altitude precipitation patterns in High Mountain Asia. His research focuses on the effects of orography, climate systems, and land usage on valley scale precipitation patterns. To achieve this, he will collect and analyse high-altitude meteorological field measurements and ice core data.
Aris holds a master鈥檚 degree in Earth Surface & Water from Utrecht University, where he focused on modeling coastal-fluvial systems. For his thesis, he researched the hydrodynamics and sand transport mechanisms of the Mekong Delta (Vietnam) in collaboration with Deltares. Driven by his passion for mountaineering, he spent a year at ETH, Z眉rich specializing in glaciology and mountain physical geography. During this time, he participated in glaciological fieldwork and assisted in a seismological field campaign.
