Marijke de Pous is a visual artist and researcher based in Rotterdam, with a background in fine art, philosophy and activist education.
Central to Marijke's artistic practice is a playful combination of drawing, performative gesture, sculpture and photography. Amidst mountains, fields and in her studio, she dances with landscape and materials to explore our emotional and physical relation to the earth and to each other. Her embodied way of working and the use of natural materials such as charcoal, graphite and clay allow her to create raw and expressive images in which content and process merge.
Topics that interest her as an artist and researcher are more-than-human agency, power, entangled forms of resistance, care and radical belonging. Marijke's artistic practice includes collaboration with writers, musicians and academic researchers, most recently with Prof.dr. Flor Avelino with whom she is developing the project and website Alterotopia, filmmaker and artist Alessia Lupo and composer and musician Jonathan Jo Hin Chiat.
