Generative Dialogue Lab
Dialogue plays a crucial role in shaping both democratic societies and vibrant academic environments. At Utrecht University (乐鱼后台), we aim to respond to the increasing polarization in society鈥攁nd on our campus鈥攂y fostering spaces where diverse perspectives can meet constructively. The Generative Dialogue Lab brings students, staff, and stakeholders together to experiment with innovative approaches for engaging in meaningful conversations about complex and contentious issues.
Arguably, the university should be a place where a wide range of perspectives can be constructively exchanged, and where disagreements and friction are approached as opportunities for growth and learning. This lab seeks to contribute to such an environment, nurturing the skills, methods, and culture that support productive dialogue.
The mission of the Generative Dialogue Lab (GDL) is to enhance dialogical capabilities, foster a campus culture of generative dialogue, and inspire dialogical institutional change. We aim to achieve this by providing experimental spaces for education, research, and cultural initiatives centered around generative dialogue.

Over time, we aim to become 乐鱼后台鈥檚 network for dialogue, offering a wide array of resources and opportunities:

- Trainings: Develop your capacity to lead and participate in generative dialogues.
- Research: Engage with research studies on the methods, outcomes, and capabilities associated with dialogue.
Origin story
The Generative Dialogue Lab was initiated by Annick de Witt with the support of the Campus Sustainability Grant 鈥 offered by the Centre for Living Labs. She teamed up with Hiljanne van der Meer of the Comenius project 鈥樷 that similarly aims to stimulate perspective taking and dialogue in 乐鱼后台 education. The GDL project grew from a shared recognition of the need for dialogue as a cornerstone of both education and academic and societal progress. The lab鈥檚 roots lie in the ambition to foster constructive dialogue across all 乐鱼后台 disciplines and communities.
