Dr. Laurien Crump at Studium Generale: About the tension between Russia and the West
On Wednesday 9 February (20:15-21:15), Utrecht Young Academy member Dr. Laurien Crump discusses the Russian threat at the Ukrainian border at the lecture series De Duiders. What is at stake?

In collaboration with , De Duiders is a monthly lecture series in which scientists and scholars discuss the many news items that reach us daily. During the past months, the tension between Russia and Europe has quickly increased. The reason: an enormous Russian military presence has gathered at the Ukrainian border. Does Putin plan to invade Ukraine? The conflict between Russia and the West has followed a pattern of tough language and sanctions for years. What stands in the way of normalising the relationship? Which mutual interests are at play? And why is Ukraine such a divisive factor?
Historian Laurien Crump will discuss the historical roots of the tense relationship between Russia, the US, and Europe (in Dutch). The event is free and can be attended in person at TivoliVredenburg or online via a live-stream.
