Does the European Union meet the requirements of the rule of law?
There are many concerns about the rule of law in some countries of the European Union, but what about the EU itself? How are power and counter-power within the EU organised and how does it function? Following a motion by Pieter Omtzigt of the Dutch Parliament, Ton van den Brink, Sybe de Vries and Gijs-Jan Brandsma of Utrecht University wrote an overview report for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their conclusion? There is certainly room for improvement.
