Zembla made an episode about health problems in dogs that can be prevented through good breeding practices. In the broadcast, the journalists spoke with Hille Fieten from the Expertise Center for Genetics at our faculty and veterinarian Paul Mandigers, who is affiliated with the faculty as a researcher.

Within the Expertise Center for Veterinary Genetics, we have taken many steps, together with breeders and veterinarians, to improve the health and welfare of purebred dogs. However, this is still far from enough. We must continue to work together to prevent hereditary diseases in dogs. Through close collaboration between science, veterinarians, breeders, and owners, we are working together towards healthy bred dogs. We must move towards a future where pets no longer suffer from their appearance and hereditary diseases.
