The health and well-being of animals always comes first

Each and every day, the staff of the academic veterinary hospital strive to improve the health and well-being of animals. These employees are deeply committed to helping animals. Who are these employees? What animals are important in their private lives? And what drives them to work at the academic veterinary hospital? In this Vetscience, we are introducing a photo series called 鈥楤eloved pets鈥. From now on, every issue will spotlight an employee and their favourite animal. The 鈥楤eloved pets鈥 exhibition is on display in the academic veterinary hospital.

At home, the cats chase him down the street instead of the other way 鈥榬ound

鈥淗e is so easy-going and sweet, really a great little pal. We've had Skip for ten years now,鈥 says Masha de Koning-Hoogeboom, talking about her Jack Russell Terrier. Masha works as a member of the radiology staff at the academic veterinary hospital. 鈥淚t鈥檚 very satisfying to be able to help a sick animal. But I find the technical aspect enjoyable and challenging as well.鈥

Having dogs brings people together

鈥淟ittle Ollie is as calm as could be and Capi is an absolute madman of a young dog who loves everyone and everything,鈥 says Corn茅lie Westermann about her Jack Russell (Ollie) and Cockapoo (Capi). Corn茅lie is an internist in the Internal Medicine department. 鈥淢y job offers a lot of variety. What I enjoy most is seeing students blossom in the clinic.鈥

He is one of the few cats that actually enjoys getting a manicure

When Maxime Wind first saw a British Longhair, she was immediately sold. 鈥淚 fell in love at first sight: what a gorgeous cat!鈥 Maxime works as a paraveterinary anaesthesiology assistant in the Companion Animal clinic. 鈥淚 spent 12 years working as a paraveterinarian in veterinary practices and I wanted to develop my talents further. That's why I took a job at the academic veterinary hospital.鈥

He guards the fort and she鈥檚 the happy-go-lucky one

鈥淭his photo captures Jouke and Rapke's personalities quite accurately,鈥 says Ronald Jan Corbee. He smiles as he talks about his two Stabyhoun dogs. Ronald Jan is a nutritionist at the academic veterinary hospital. 鈥淚鈥檓 surrounded by very smart people, some of whom don鈥檛 realise how clever they are. I like to give them a nudge in the right direction. Helping other people become better makes me happy.鈥
